Taylor Stout

Data Engineer

Taylor began his career at Search Discovery just over two years ago, and has certifications with three of our strategic partners under his belt. Taylor is an avid traveller, and foodie, in his free time he enjoys taking trips with his wife, golfing, and exploring local eateries along the Atlanta BeltLine. Taylor received a Bachelor of Science in Computational Media from Georgia Tech, but his interest in data science really began while working at a Fortune 500 company working on supply chains logistics. He specializes in business intelligence platforms and is actively growing his skillset in cloud engineering. He thrives on helping people leverage their tools and teams to make smarter and more efficient business decisions, and the “ah-ha” moments when clients realize the potential of their data.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Pay off student loans!

What superhero power would you have and why?

The ability to speed up/slow down time. The idea of fast forwarding through plane flights and sleeping in every morning is hard to beat.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Cyprus. It’s not every day you get to travel to a far exotic land and be surrounded by family (my wife’s father’s side of the family all live on the island). The history there alone, which includes a history of Persian, Ottomon, Roman, and Greek rule, is amazing. Don’t get me started on the food!
Lisa in Lisbon, Portugal

What three traits define you?

Innovative, reliable, friendly

Tell us about something you learned recently?

I’m terrible at saying no.

What is an important or cool trend you see in our industry today?

The accessibility/democratization of data. It’s amazing to see how much easier it is today for business users to access and work with data. The days of vaults of cold data sitting behind a wall of IT organizations is (hopefully) going away. I’m seeing more and more business decisions becoming ever increasingly powered by real data instead just processes and/or intuition. This brings about a whole new set of exciting challenges.

What 3 words would you use to describe Search Discovery?

Family. Brilliance. Ambition.

Our purpose is to help people thrive. Describe a transformation you’ve experienced in your time at Search Discovery.

While at Search Discovery I’ve been able to transform and expand my skill sets into various areas. This includes learning new technology platforms and also learning how to better consult and partner with clients. On any given day I may be documenting data architecture, implementing code, meeting with clients as part of a sales pitch, or helping to train colleagues. I believe this has transformed me into being more “well rounded”.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Search Discovery?

The people without a doubt. It doesn’t hurt that we are doing exciting work, but it’s the people that make it all worth it!
